Quick Glance At Juvenile Boot Camp

Boot camps are a recent development in American juvenile justice. In fact, the first boot camp in the United States did not come into being until 1983, and that facility in Georgia only catered to adults enrolled in the program. The first child-exclusive boot camp was soon to follow, though, and was established in Louisiana in 1985. Between adult and juvenile camps, more than 50 have been founded across America and exist in the form of both public and private facilities.

Frequently, boot camp will be paired with some other sentence upon completion of the program. Typically, some sort of supervised aftercare program will be a follow-up to enrollment, but probation may also work in tandem with boot camps. It should also be noted that parents may elect to place their child in a camp without his or her consent. For this and many other reasons, boot camps are a controversial method of child rearing in the United States and elsewhere.
