Currently, statistics regarding foster children adoption estimate that more than 400,000 children are currently in the foster care system. Many of these children have been abandoned by parents who were unable or unwilling to care for them. Other children who have entered into the foster care system were removed from their homes because they were suffering from extensive abuse and/or neglect.
The majority of children currently in foster placement have been in the foster care system for roughly a year. Foster care and adoption statistics indicate that many more steps need to be taken in order to ensure that children are placed in permanent and stable environments with loving and supportive families.
