Zygote Intrafallopian Tube Transfer Zift

There are currently increased rates of female infertility in the United States. Like Gamete IntraFallopian Tube transfer, Zygote IntraFallopian Tube transfer (ZIFT) is generally used when female fertility problems are linked to sperm quality or when a woman experiences problems with one of her Fallopian tubes which results in decreased female fertility.

Certain problems in Fallopian tubes affect female fertility and can prevent the egg from getting fertilized. Because of the difficulties associated with female infertility, couples sometimes utilize Zygote IntraFallopian Tube Transfer. At the beginning of the process, the woman will take medication to stimulate egg production and increase female fertility.

Once the eggs are harvested, they are fertilized outside of the body, generally in a petri dish. After fertilization, doctors select embryos to implant in one Fallopian tube in hopes of achieving a successful pregnancy.
